Regions
Farming in your region
What grows best, when to plant and where to sell, for each of Ghana’s 16 regions.
Forest-Savannah Transition
The middle belt between forest and savannah. Two rainy seasons, mixed soils — great for maize, yam, vegetables.
Forest
High-rainfall southern half of Ghana with rich loamy soil. Best for plantain, cassava, cocoa-belt crops.
Coastal Savannah
The dry strip along the coast — short rains, lots of sun, sandy-loamy soils. Good for tomato, pepper, cassava.
Guinea Savannah
The northern grassland — one long rainy season (Apr–Oct), drier overall. Best for cereals like maize, sorghum, soybean, yam.
Sudan Savannah
The hottest, driest tip of the north. Very short rains; mostly grains and drought-tolerant crops only.
